Anthraquinone is a light yellow or light gray crystal and powder. It is easily soluble in hot benzene and hot toluene, insoluble in cold benzene, insoluble in water, and slightly soluble in ethanol, ether and chloroform. Anthraquinone is soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid, not easy to be oxidized, and can undergo nitration, sulfonation and bromination reactions.

Scope of application and method of use

Anthraquinone has a wide range of uses. It can not only be used as dye intermediates, papermaking cooking agents and hydrogen peroxide raw materials, but also mostly used in dyes. The amount of digestion aid used for pulping has been increasing rapidly.

(1) Used in the production of dyes Using anthraquinone as raw material, through sulfonation, chlorination, nitration, etc., a wide range of dye intermediates can be obtained, which are used to produce anthraquinone-based disperse dyes, acid dyes, vat dyes, reaction Dyes, etc., form a dye category with complete chromatography and good performance. According to statistics, there are more than 400 varieties of anthraquinone dyes, which occupy a very important position in the field of synthetic dyes.

(2) Used as a pulping cooking agent for papermaking Only a small amount of anthraquinone is added to the alkaline cooking liquid, which can speed up the speed of delignification, shorten the cooking time, improve the yield of pulp and reduce the load of waste liquid. There are more and more paper mills using anthraquinone additives. The consumption of anthraquinones as cooking additives is growing rapidly.

(3) Anthraquinone has other fields of application Anthraquinone compounds can be used in the production of high-concentration hydrogen peroxide; in the fertilizer industry, it is used to manufacture sodium anthraquinone disulfonate, a desulfurizer.
